Vitamin B2

Vitamin B2, also known as riboflavin, is a water-soluble vitamin naturally found in many foods of animal and plant origin, such as dairy products, eggs, lean meats, and certain green vegetables. Since the body cannot store it in significant amounts, it must be supplied regularly through the diet. Riboflavin plays a central role in energy metabolism: it is involved in converting carbohydrates, fats, and proteins into energy that cells can use. It also contributes to normal iron metabolism and supports functions such as normal vision, nervous system function, and the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Some populations — such as strict vegans, pregnant women, or older adults — may have insufficient riboflavin intake. Supplementation can then help meet recommended daily requirements and support the physiological functions in which this vitamin is involved.
