Lutein is a natural pigment from the carotenoid family, found in many fruits, vegetables and flowers. In our body, it naturally concentrates in the macula, a small area of the retina responsible for fine, detailed vision. It acts as a protective shield for the eyes, helping to filter blue light and neutralise the free radicals responsible for oxidative stress.

Why combine lutein with zeaxanthin?

Lutein and zeaxanthin are two closely related carotenoids, naturally present in the macula, the area of the retina that controls central vision and the perception of detail. They concentrate in slightly different areas: lutein acts mainly in the periphery of the macula, while zeaxanthin is more concentrated in its centre. Together, they form a true natural filter against blue light and oxidative stress, protecting photoreceptors and helping preserve visual acuity and colour clarity. This synergy is confirmed by several studies, notably on macular pigment density, a key indicator of eye health.

Where does the lutein in your formula come from?

Our lutein is 100% plant-based, naturally extracted from marigold flowers (Tagetes erecta), a rich and stable source of carotenoids. We chose an extract standardised to 20 mg of lutein and 1 mg of zeaxanthin, dosages recognised in the scientific literature for their efficacy and safety.

Does lutein help protect against blue light from screens?

Yes, this is one of its main areas of interest today. Lutein acts as a natural filter by absorbing part of the blue light emitted by screens, LEDs and the sun. It therefore helps reduce visual fatigue, especially in people exposed for long periods to computers or smartphones.
