Soy protein

Soy protein is derived from soybeans (Glycine max), a legume native to East Asia that is now cultivated worldwide. It is typically available in the form of concentrates or isolates obtained by processing defatted soybean flour. Its amino acid profile is remarkably complete for a plant-based protein, making it a valued source in vegetarian and vegan diets. Soy protein contributes to the maintenance and growth of muscle mass, as do other dietary proteins. It also supports satiety and helps maintain an adequate daily protein intake. Its digestibility is high, and its PDCAAS score (protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score) is comparable to that of animal proteins. Soy protein supplementation may be of particular interest for individuals with increased protein needs, such as athletes, or for those looking to reduce their intake of animal-based proteins. It therefore represents a practical plant-based alternative for meeting daily recommended protein requirements.
