Rosemary extract
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is a Mediterranean aromatic plant whose leaves have been used since antiquity for their beneficial properties. Rosemary extract is obtained by concentrating the active compounds found in these leaves, primarily phenolic acids such as rosmarinic acid and carnosic acid, along with flavonoids, diterpenoids and terpenes. These compounds give rosemary extract a well-documented antioxidant activity. Antioxidants contribute to protecting cells against oxidative stress, a phenomenon involved in cellular ageing and various physiological imbalances. Carnosic acid and rosmarinic acid are particularly recognised for their ability to neutralise free radicals. As a supplement, rosemary extract provides a standardised concentration of antioxidant compounds, which is difficult to guarantee through dietary consumption alone. It therefore represents a practical way to support the body's natural defences against daily oxidative stress.
