Menaquinone (vitamin K2) (microbial source) (MenaQ7®)
Menaquinone, commonly known as vitamin K2, is a fat-soluble vitamin found naturally in certain fermented foods and animal-derived products. It is also obtained through microbial fermentation, as is the case for the patented MenaQ7® form, which provides menaquinone-7 (MK-7), the most bioavailable and longest-acting form of vitamin K2 in the body. Vitamin K2 plays an essential role in bone and cardiovascular metabolism. It contributes to the activation of specific proteins, such as osteocalcin, which is involved in binding calcium to bones, and matrix Gla protein (MGP), which helps regulate calcium deposition in vascular walls. These mechanisms contribute to the maintenance of normal bone structure and cardiovascular health. Dietary intakes of vitamin K2 are often insufficient in Western diets. Supplementation with the MK-7 form, such as MenaQ7®, offers the advantage of a long half-life allowing prolonged action over 24 hours, making it a relevant option for contributing to adequate daily intakes.
