Magnesium
Magnesium is an essential macromineral naturally found in many foods such as legumes, nuts, whole grains and certain green leafy vegetables. It is involved in more than 300 enzymatic reactions within the body, making it one of the most versatile minerals in human metabolism. Its documented roles are numerous: it contributes to reducing tiredness and fatigue, supports normal nervous system and muscle function, and helps maintain normal energy metabolism. It also plays a part in neuromuscular transmission of nerve impulses and is involved in electrolyte balance. Its reputation as a natural stress reliever is linked to its role in regulating stress-response mechanisms. In many Western countries, dietary magnesium intakes are frequently below recommended levels, particularly among people under chronic stress, engaging in intense physical activity, or following an unbalanced diet. Supplementation can therefore help meet daily requirements when diet alone is insufficient.
