L-Tyrosine
L-Tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid that the body naturally synthesises from phenylalanine, an essential amino acid obtained through diet. It is found primarily in protein-rich foods such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy products and certain legumes. It plays a central role in the biosynthesis of several catecholamines, including dopamine, noradrenaline and adrenaline — neurotransmitters that contribute to the regulation of mood, alertness and the stress response. L-Tyrosine is also involved in the production of thyroid hormones and melanin, the pigment responsible for skin and hair colour. During periods of intense stress or prolonged fatigue, the body's reserves of neurotransmitter precursors may decline. L-Tyrosine supplementation helps maintain adequate intake, particularly when needs are heightened or when dietary sources do not sufficiently cover specific requirements.
