Oxyde de fer

Iron oxide is a naturally occurring mineral compound resulting from the oxidation of iron in the presence of oxygen and water. It exists in several forms depending on its oxidation state, each displaying a characteristic colour ranging from yellow and red to black. In the food supplement industry, iron oxides (yellow, red and black) are primarily used as authorised food colorants under European regulations (E172). They are not generally used as a bioavailable source of iron, unlike other iron forms employed for nutritional purposes. Their presence in a supplement formulation is therefore mainly technical and aesthetic, allowing visual identification of a capsule or tablet. They are considered physiologically inert at the doses used, and their safety is recognised by European health authorities within the scope of regulatory uses.
