Inositol

Inositol is a molecule naturally produced by the body, sometimes referred to as vitamin B7 or vitamin B8, although it is not strictly a vitamin. It is also found in certain foods such as citrus fruits, whole grains and legumes. It plays a structural role in cell membranes and is involved in signal transmission between nerve cells. Its best-documented properties relate to supporting the functioning of the nervous system and the brain. Inositol contributes to the balance of several neurotransmitters, including serotonin and dopamine, which explains the scientific interest in this molecule in the field of mental well-being. It is also studied for its role in insulin sensitivity and hormonal regulation, particularly in women. Although the body is capable of synthesising inositol, dietary intake may be insufficient in certain situations. Supplementation can therefore help maintain adequate levels to support proper nervous system function and the body's overall balance.
