Haematococcus Pluvialis seaweed extract

Haematococcus pluvialis is a freshwater microalgae belonging to the Chlorophyta division and the Haematococcaceae family. Found in aquatic environments worldwide, it is distinguished by its ability to accumulate significant amounts of astaxanthin, a red-orange carotenoid pigment, when exposed to stress conditions such as nutrient deficiency or intense UV exposure. It is currently one of the most concentrated natural sources of astaxanthin known. The astaxanthin derived from this microalgae is recognised for its particularly high antioxidant properties, superior to those of many other carotenoids. It contributes to the protection of cells against oxidative stress, a phenomenon involved in cellular ageing and various metabolic disturbances. Studies also suggest that it contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function and to the protection of the skin against external aggressors. Supplementation with Haematococcus pluvialis extract offers a practical way to obtain standardised intakes of natural astaxanthin, which is generally found in low amounts in everyday diets. It is particularly suited to those looking to support their antioxidant defences on a daily basis.
