Horsetail (Equisetum arvense L.)

Field horsetail (Equisetum arvense L.) is a perennial plant belonging to the Equisetaceae family, one of the oldest plant lineages still present on Earth. It grows in moist areas and temperate meadows across the northern hemisphere. Its sterile stem, harvested in spring and summer, is particularly rich in organic silica in the form of silicic acid, which is readily absorbed by the body. The silica found in horsetail contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and nails, and plays a role in connective tissue metabolism.
