D-Chiro-Inositol

D-Chiro-Inositol is a naturally occurring isomer of inositol, a substance related to B-group vitamins. It is found in certain foods such as buckwheat seeds, legumes, and citrus fruits, and is also synthesised in small amounts by the body from myo-inositol. It plays a structural role in cell membranes and is involved in several intracellular signalling pathways. D-Chiro-Inositol is primarily known for its involvement in the insulin signalling pathway. Studies suggest that it contributes to improved cellular sensitivity to insulin and participates in blood sugar regulation. It is also studied for its role in hormonal balance, particularly in relation to androgens and ovarian function. Supplementation with D-Chiro-Inositol is particularly investigated in women experiencing metabolic or hormonal imbalances.
