Gélule

A capsule is a solid shell, usually oblong in shape, designed to contain a powder, granule, or oil. It is one of the most common dosage forms used in the manufacture of food supplements. Capsules are traditionally made from animal-derived gelatin (bovine or porcine), but plant-based versions made from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), derived from plant cellulose, are also available and suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets. Capsules offer several practical advantages: they mask the sometimes strong taste and smell of certain active ingredients, make swallowing easier, and allow for precise dosing. The shell dissolves quickly in the stomach, promoting efficient release of the active compounds. In the context of supplementation, the capsule format contributes to the stability of ingredients that are sensitive to moisture or oxidation. It represents a convenient and well-tolerated format, widely favoured for the daily integration of micronutrients, plant extracts, or amino acids into a health routine.
