Calcium carbonate

Calcium carbonate is a naturally occurring mineral compound found in limestone, marble and chalk, as well as in eggshells and certain marine organisms. It is widely used in the food and nutraceutical industries as a bulking agent, and is also one of the most common forms of calcium used in dietary supplements. Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body. It contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, normal muscle function, neurotransmission, and normal blood clotting. Calcium carbonate has a particularly high elemental calcium content (around 40%), making it a compact and cost-effective source of calcium. Supplementation may be of interest for people whose dietary calcium intake is insufficient, particularly those following a diet low in dairy products or during periods of increased needs. To optimise absorption, it is recommended to take it with a meal, in the presence of gastric acidity.
