Bifidobacterium breve
Bifidobacterium breve is an anaerobic bacterium belonging to the Bifidobacterium genus, naturally present in the human gut microbiota, particularly in high concentrations in infants. Like all bifidobacteria, it is a living micro-organism classified as a probiotic, capable of temporarily colonising the digestive tract when ingested in sufficient quantities. This strain is recognised for its fermentative properties: it contributes to the breakdown of certain complex carbohydrates and to the production of organic acids that help maintain a balanced intestinal environment. Studies suggest that Bifidobacterium breve contributes to a balanced gut flora and to the proper functioning of the intestinal barrier. Supplementation with Bifidobacterium breve is of particular interest when the microbiota is compromised, for example following antibiotic treatment, a period of stress, or dietary imbalance. Provided as a food supplement, it helps support the diversity and balance of the gut microbiota.
