Chlorure de sodium
Sodium chloride, commonly known as table salt, is a mineral composed of sodium and chlorine. Found naturally in seawater and many foods, it is one of the oldest and most widespread substances in the human diet. It is extracted through seawater evaporation or mined from underground deposits. Both sodium and chlorine play essential roles in the body. Sodium contributes to the regulation of fluid and electrolyte balance, the maintenance of cellular osmotic pressure, and the proper functioning of the nervous and muscular systems. Chlorine, in turn, participates in the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and contributes to acid-base balance. As part of a varied diet, sodium chloride requirements are generally met through everyday food intake. Supplementation may nevertheless be of interest in specific situations involving significant electrolyte losses, particularly during intense physical exertion or excessive sweating, in order to help maintain normal electrolyte balance.
