Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol, is the natural form of vitamin D synthesised by the skin upon exposure to the sun's UVB rays. It is also found in small amounts in certain animal-based foods, such as oily fish, egg yolks and liver. It is the most bioavailable form of vitamin D, meaning it is the form the body absorbs and uses most efficiently. Vitamin D3 plays a central role in calcium and phosphorus metabolism: it contributes to the intestinal absorption of these minerals, thereby supporting normal bone and teeth maintenance. It also contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system, normal muscle function, and the regulation of blood calcium levels. In France and across much of Europe, vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency are widespread, particularly during winter or among people with limited sun exposure. Supplementing with vitamin D3 is a practical way to help maintain adequate levels throughout the year.
