Silicon dioxide
Silicon dioxide, also known as silica, is a naturally occurring mineral compound found throughout the environment, including in sand, quartz, and certain plants. In the food and dietary supplement industry, it is widely used as an anti-caking additive, improving powder flowability and preventing clumping during manufacturing. While silica in its bulk form is generally considered inert in the body, its nanoscale forms raise more complex questions. Several in vitro studies have highlighted a possible toxic effect of silica nanoparticles on certain intestinal cells, particularly through oxidative stress mechanisms. Although these findings have not yet been fully confirmed in human in vivo studies, they fuel a growing scientific and regulatory debate on the safety of nanoparticles in food. As a precautionary measure and out of commitment to transparency, Cuure has chosen not to use silicon dioxide in its formulas. Alternative excipients free from nanoparticles make it possible to maintain the same manufacturing quality without unnecessarily exposing consumers to toxicological uncertainties that are still under investigation.
