Pepper extract (Piper nigrum)
Black pepper (Piper nigrum) is a climbing plant native to southern India, whose dried berries have been used for thousands of years as a spice and in traditional medicine. Black pepper extract is obtained from these berries and is notable for its concentration of piperine, its main active compound. It is typically available in a standardised form, often dosed at 95% piperine. Piperine contributes to stimulating the production of digestive enzymes, thereby supporting digestive comfort. It is particularly recognised for its so-called bioavailability-enhancing properties: it contributes to improving the intestinal absorption of many nutrients and active compounds, including curcumin, certain vitamins, and minerals. In the context of supplementation, black pepper extract is frequently combined with other ingredients to optimise their assimilation. Its value lies less in its own effects than in its ability to enhance the efficacy of the formulas in which it is included.
