Laminaria japonica

Laminaria japonica is a brown marine alga belonging to the Laminariaceae family, widely distributed in the cold coastal waters of the Pacific Asia, particularly in Japan, China and Korea. Cultivated for centuries in these regions, it is known as kombu and represents a major traditional food. It is notable for its naturally high iodine content, an essential trace element for normal thyroid function, as well as its richness in minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium) and specific polysaccharides such as fucoidans and alginates. The iodine found in Laminaria japonica contributes to normal energy metabolism, normal cognitive function and normal production of thyroid hormones.
