Myo-inositol

Myo-inositol is a compound naturally found in the body, belonging to the family of cyclic polyols often grouped with the B vitamins. It is present in many plant and animal foods, including citrus fruits, legumes and whole grains, and can also be synthesised by the body from glucose. At the cellular level, myo-inositol is involved in numerous biological processes. It acts as a precursor to second messengers implicated in hormonal signal transduction, particularly that of insulin, thereby contributing to normal glucose metabolism and healthy cellular signalling. Research also suggests a role in female hormonal balance, especially in relation to ovarian function. Supplementation with myo-inositol may be of interest when dietary intake is insufficient or in specific physiological contexts. It is generally well tolerated and is available in powder or capsule form. Its complementarity with other nutrients, such as folic acid, is frequently explored in the scientific literature.
