GABA

GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter of the central nervous system. Naturally present in the brain, it is synthesised from glutamic acid and plays a key role in regulating neuronal activity: by binding to its specific receptors, it reduces neuron excitability and helps balance nerve signals. Its inhibitory properties are linked to several documented physiological functions: it contributes to promoting mental relaxation, supporting quality sleep and easing the effects of occasional stress. Insufficient GABA levels in the brain are often associated with neuronal hyperactivity, which can manifest as anxiety, sleep disturbances or tension. GABA supplementation is intended for people looking to support their everyday nervous system balance. While its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier is still being studied, some research suggests both peripheral and central effects contributing to a sense of calm and relaxation.
