Cimicifuga

Cimicifuga racemosa, commonly known as Black Cohosh, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the forests of North America. Used for centuries by indigenous peoples, it is today primarily cultivated and harvested for its rhizomes and roots, from which a dry plant powder concentrated in active compounds — notably triterpene glycosides — is produced. Black Cohosh is recognised for its potential to contribute to the comfort of women during menopause and perimenopause. Its bioactive components have been studied for their ability to help reduce hot flushes, night sweats, and mood disturbances associated with hormonal fluctuations. Both the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) have assessed its properties in this context. Supplementation in the form of dry plant powder allows for a standardised intake of the plant's characteristic active compounds. It represents a natural option frequently considered by women wishing to support this hormonal transition, as a complement to a varied diet and a balanced lifestyle.
