Potassium bicarbonate

Potassium bicarbonate is an inorganic mineral salt formed by the combination of potassium and carbonic acid. Naturally present in certain fruits, vegetables and legumes, it is also widely used as an acidity regulator in the food and pharmaceutical industries. It serves as a source of potassium, an essential mineral that the body cannot synthesise on its own. Potassium plays a central role in maintaining the body's acid-base balance, and contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system and muscles, including the heart muscle. It is also involved in regulating osmotic pressure and transporting nutrients across cell membranes. A diet low in fruits and vegetables may lead to potassium intakes below recommended levels. Potassium bicarbonate supplementation is therefore a practical option to help meet daily requirements, particularly for individuals whose diet is unbalanced or whose needs are specifically elevated.
