Zinc oxide

Zinc oxide is an inorganic mineral compound widely used in supplementation for its very high elemental zinc content, making it one of the most concentrated forms available. Zinc is the most abundant trace metal element in the body after iron, present in virtually all tissues and biological fluids. As a cofactor for more than 300 enzymes, zinc contributes to the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and lipids. It also plays an essential structural role in many proteins, particularly zinc finger transcription factors, and is involved in maintaining normal immune function, protecting cells from oxidative stress, and supporting DNA synthesis. Insufficient dietary zinc intake is relatively common, especially among people following a vegan diet, athletes, and older adults. Zinc oxide supplementation helps meet daily requirements and maintain adequate levels in the body.
