Vegetable glycerin, also known as glycerol, is a natural compound extracted through the hydrolysis or transesterification of vegetable oils, primarily sourced from soy, sunflower, or coconut. It presents as a viscous, colourless, and slightly sweet liquid, widely used across the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries. Its humectant properties allow it to attract and retain water molecules, contributing to hydration and texture maintenance in various formulations. As a texturing agent, it improves the smoothness, flowability, and stability of the products in which it is incorporated. It also acts as a solvent and a mild natural preservative. In the context of supplementation, vegetable glycerin is primarily used as an excipient: it helps improve the palatability, texture, and preservation of dietary supplements in liquid or soft-gel form, without interfering with the active ingredients it accompanies.
