Copper

Copper is a mineral trace element naturally present in the body in very small amounts. It is found mainly in the liver, brain, kidneys and muscles, and is supplied through the diet via sources such as shellfish, legumes, nuts and offal. This trace element acts as a cofactor in numerous enzymes. It contributes to the maintenance of normal connective tissue, supports bone and cartilage strength, and plays a role in cellular energy metabolism. Copper also contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system and to the protection of cells against oxidative stress. It is likewise involved in iron transport within the body and in the normal functioning of the nervous system. Copper intake may be insufficient in certain contexts, particularly in the case of an unbalanced diet or impaired intestinal absorption. Supplementation can then help meet recommended daily requirements and support all the physiological functions to which this trace element contributes.
