Bifidobacterium lactis

Bifidobacterium lactis is an anaerobic bacterium belonging to the bifidobacterium family, naturally found in the human gut microbiota as well as in certain fermented foods such as yoghurt. Discovered at the end of the 19th century, it is one of the most extensively studied living micro-organisms in the field of digestive health. This strain contributes to the balance of the intestinal flora by temporarily colonising the colon and interacting with resident bacteria. Studies document its role in maintaining a functional intestinal barrier and supporting the body's natural defences, particularly through its interactions with the gut-associated immune system. Supplementation with Bifidobacterium lactis is of particular interest when the microbiota is weakened, for example following antibiotic therapy, stress or dietary imbalance. Supplied in probiotic form, this strain contributes to restoring and maintaining a microbial diversity that is favourable to the proper functioning of the digestive tract.
